De Coque was a talented guitarist who blended West African highlife with Congolese rhythmic guitar style, developing a unique sound he called Ogene.

He was crowned the King of Highlife music by his royal majesty Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, in 1994 for his consistency, and subsequently got awarded with an honorary doctorate in music by the University of New Orleans for his musical achievement.

Google recently honoured him with a doodle on what would have been his 74th Birthday. His Expo'76-Ogene Sound Super Of Africa My Woman (1986) Viynl record is available on CoolAfrican for collectors and lovers of African sounds.
